New test introduced by corrections department for applicants to meet language requirements

The applicants for the Assistant Officer II position in the Correctional Services Department (CSD) can find an additional way to meet the language proficiency requirements, as a new language test will be introduced starting next week.

The newly announced language test, which consists of a Chinese Language written test and an English Language written test, is benchmarked against Level 2 in Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (DSE).

The test comprises "Practical Writing" and "Multiple Choice" questions to test the candidates' abilities in logical thinking, writing, error identification, sentence completion, and paragraph improvement.

Applicants who pass the language test will be deemed to have met the Assistant Officer II language proficiency requirements, and the result will be permanently valid for the post. 

This is among the many measures CSD has been adopting to attract talent. The corrections department adjusted the requirements for recruits as new physical fitness test items were reduced from five to four since mid-September.

The department has also streamlined the recruitment procedures so that the physical fitness test, the Basic Law and National Security Law Test, the group interview and the selection interview for Assistant Officer II, which were conducted over two separate days previously, can now be completed within a single day.
