Chan made the remark when speaking at the opening ceremony of a summer festival in Quarry Bay on Saturday morning.
“After having dinner afterward, remember to grab a few drinks before going home. Today is Saturday, and it doesn’t matter if it’s a bit late.
“Apart from having fun with friends and families, I also hope you can share this happy atmosphere in society. With a more positive social atmosphere, business will start booming too,” Chan said.
Tim Blackburn, Chief Executive of Swire Properties, was also at the ceremony. He said Swire will cooperate with the government to develop and push the city’s nighttime economy.
Swire also plans to discuss with vendors extending opening hours, providing free parking, and staging more nighttime performances to lure citizens to leave their homes and spend at night.
The two-day Quarryside Summer Fest opens from 11 am to 9 pm today and from 11 am to 5 pm tomorrow (Sun) at Quarryside on Hoi Shin Lane.
There are huge balloon installations and art workshops, as well as over 40 shops with food and beverage discounts.
