One vehicle damaged as concrete falls in Mong Kok and Yau Ma Tei

Concrete again fell off two buildings in Mong Kok and Yau Ma Tei on Saturday morning, with a black seven-seater being damaged by the falling concrete, but no injuries were reported. 

The first occurred in Yau Ma Tei at around 7.43 am when the car reached the junction between Temple Street and Pak Hoi Street. The concrete landed on the windscreen and cracked the glass. 

Cops later arrived and found two pieces of concrete, about two inches by two inches by four inches. 

The male driver and officers later went up to the roof to investigate. It was believed that the concrete fell off a canopy on the 5/F. 

Records show that the building was completed in 1979, and there was no inspection notice, according to the Buildings Department’s website. 

The second case occurred around 8 am at Sun Hing Building on Nathan Road. The concrete pieces fell from about three meters high and landed on a bus stop outside a convenience store. 

Police then cordoned off the area to investigate. 

Sun Hing Building is 57 years old. The Buildings Department’s website said the building last received an inspection notice in August 2018. The department in 2019 issued another notice but has yet to be fulfilled.
