To instill a sense of joyfulness in Hong Kong, the award-winning artist Oh Mankee will be bringing her iconic cartoon character HOKO to seven MTR malls this summer after winning the championship in the LIMITS Asian Championship. The name of the positive, generous cartoon character HOKO is taken from the word ‘HOng KOng’. Being born on Tree Cotton Day in Hong Kong, the flying calico cat flies around on a cloud transformed from tree cotton and offers its hands to the needy from across the city.

“For me, HOKO is always cheerful. It loves sending love and vitality to Hongkongers and helping those in need,” shares Mankee. “Resembling HOKO’s caring image, MTR has created diversified community spaces with care, providing people in Hong Kong with comfort and convenience over the last forty years. All the while, the MTR malls have always been here with us as we grow up.”
HOKO is set to show its face in seven MTR malls, including Paradise Mall, Luk Yeung Galleria, Ocean Walk, Citylink, STM Shopping Centre, Plaza Ascot, and Hanford Plaza. To create warmth and connections with different communities, a variety of themes has been adapted to the features of each shopping mall, including the realms of cuisine, sports and shopping, with the addition of distinctive local elements. Gather your friends and families and head to the Instagrammable spots at these MTR malls to snap as many lovely shots as you want.
“MTR supports local artists whole-heartedly and it’s an honor for me to work with them,” Mankee adds. “I hope more Hongkongers could follow and support local artists going forward.” Soon, Mankee will focus on curating her own picture books. By creating more infectious artworks that spark ideas, she hopes that more Hongkongers could come to learn about the positive virtues and inspiring stories behind HOKO.
This sweltering season, Paradise Mall will be putting on Summer Fun 2023. Starting from 15 July to 27 August, visitors are invited to unleash their inner ninja with three ninja-themed inflatable obstacle games, including “Wipeout Big Baller”, “Obstacle Race”, and “Hungry Hippo Chow Down”.
