As the gigantic yellow Rubber Duck created by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman returned to Hong Kong after ten years with a friend this time, one of them unluckily became deflated and collapsed in Victoria Harbour on Saturday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 1.50 pm today, causing citizens and tourists to scream as they witnessed the “horror.”
Others were shocked and stood still, not knowing how to react.
A citizen named Lee said she was about to take photos with the ducks in her background but suddenly found that the duck on the left became deflated and collapsed.
A mother named Lam said she was leaving with her kids and didn’t know why the duck deflated. “It was much better when they were both here,” she said.
She added luckily, she had taken photos with her kids and hoped the other duck would be fine.
The inflation process for the pair of ducks was completed on Thursday night in the waters opposite the Convention Plaza in Wan Chai. At 11 am yesterday (Fri), the ducks started to sail towards the Central promenade at the commencement ceremony.
Hofman earlier said his pair of ducks represented “twice the fun, double the happiness” and brought new excitement to Hong Kong.
