Car owners who want to drive to Guangdong via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge on July 1 can register for balloting starting tomorrow (May 29), with quotas for car inspections increased to 700 a day.
Applications for "northbound travel for Hong Kong vehicles" will be opened on Thursday (Jun 1), but applicants will need to first register for the computer balloting online.
The first round of ballot registration is tomorrow and Tuesday (May 29–30), and the result will be released on Wednesday (May 31).
Successful applicants can submit applications for the scheme within the designated date and time randomly allocated by the computer system, starting at 9 am on Thursday.
Secretary for Transport and Logistics Lam Sai-hung said after discussions with mainland authorities, the China Inspection Company in Yuen Long, the only designated vehicle examination premises for the scheme, increased the vehicle examination quota to 700 a day.
He added that authorities will continue their close correspondence with the mainland counterparts and adjust the quota based on the feedback from the public, the application process, the inspection of private cars, etc.
The company will also extend its business hours until 8 pm on weekdays and stay open on weekends.
