The sample submitted by RTHK host Joyce Yeung was contaminated, and she was ruled a false positive case, while guests of a birthday party that were sent to the quarantine center because of her would soon get to leave.
Yeung was among some 180 guests who attended the birthday party of Witman Hung Wai-man on Monday. She tested preliminary positive on Friday, but her case was ruled a false positive case on Saturday.
Government advisor Yuen Kwok-yung inspected the clinic of Yeung's husband Chu Wai-sing on Saturday, where her sample was collected.
After the inspection, Yuen spoke to reporters in the afternoon. He said Chu had administered vaccine for 13 people on Thursday (Jan 6) and suspected the environment was contaminated by the tiny bubbles that leaked when administering the vaccine vials.
The virus from the vaccine left there then got onto the testing paper when Chu was collecting the sample for Yeung, Yuen pointed out.
He continued that the virus that tested positive was from the vaccine, but not the coronavirus spreading in the city due to the differences in the genetic sequencing.
Yeung tested negative twice after she was admitted to the hospital, and she didn't develop any symptoms, Chu also said when replying to media inquiries.
A dozen birthday party guests sent to the quarantine center because of Yeung's case would then be arranged to leave, controller of the Center for Health Protection Edwin Tsui Lok-kin said.
Those people involved guests who left the party before 9.30pm.
As for about 100 guests who stayed after 9.30pm that night, they would still be listed as close contacts. These close contacts will need to undergo a 21-day quarantine, and their family contacts have to undergo home isolation for four days.
