RTHK’s Programme Staff Union slammed the public broadcaster’s decision to cut its staffer Bao Choy Yuk-ling from the production of the documentary program “Hong Kong Connection”.
Choy, 37, appeared at Fan Ling magistrates’ court last November for two counts of making false declarations under the Road Traffic Ordinance while searching vehicle registration details for an episode of the program covering the Yuen Long mob attack in July 2019.
But she is set for a court appearance again tomorrow at the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Court at 2 pm.
The Union deemed the latest move by the RTHK as an “act-first-ask-later” attitude.
“Choy has been refrained from participating in the production of “Hong Kong Connection” since November,” the union said.
“From our understanding, RTHK’s management thought that Choy’s case has entered legal proceedings and is relevant to the public broadcaster’s programming and therefore will re-arrange her for assignments after the legal proceedings are over.”
The union said the move entailed that Choy would be suspended from her position indefinitely, adding that there was no need to cut her from the program as long as her case did not have a conflict of interest with the program.
It also said that the representatives of the union would voice their support for Choy outside the West Kowloon Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
