Two former members of student group Studentlocalism have been released on bail after they had been arrested on suspicion of breaching the national security law.
The group posted on social media that former members Yanni Ho Yan-nok and William Chan Wai-jin were both released on bail from Tin Sum and Tuen Mun police stations respectively in the early hours of this morning, saying the police have not made any modifications on their charges.
The group later confirmed on this afternoon that their former leader Tony Chung Hon-lam, who was said to have been nabbed near the US Consulate in Central on Tuesday morning, was still being detained at Central Police District Headquarters, and it was unknown whether he could be released on bail or not.
Police said on Tuesday evening that the trio had been arrested on suspicion of breaching the national security law in connection with social media posts made since September.
The three and another former member of the group had already been arrested under the national security law on July 29, also on suspicion of inciting secession.
Sources say that another four former members of the group seek asylum at the US Consulate in Central in the afternoon, hours after Chung’s arrest. The four were seen to enter the compound but later rejected.-RTHK/The Standard
