Virus patients in Xinjiang jump by 30 to 569, and more than 14,600 under watch

Northwestern Xinjiang, where coronavirus infections have been soaring, reported 30 more newly confirmed patients Saturday, the regional health commission said Sunday in its daily report.

The 30 patients include 29 in the regional capital Urumqi and one in Kashgar prefecture, according to the commission, Xinhua reports.

The region also reported nine new asymptomatic patients in Urumqi Saturday.

By Saturday, Xinjiang had 569 confirmed patients and 112 asymptomatic cases, and 14,640 people were still under medical observation.

From July 15 to Saturday, Urumqi had a total of 23 people discharged from the hospital after recovery and another 22 asymptomatic dismissed from medical observation. The city also deducted one from its total confirmed cases Saturday without giving details in the daily report. 

On Tuesday, July 28, the mainland reported 101 new confirmed patients on Tuesday, the highest daily figure in three months, with the majority of them in Xinjiang.

Xinjiang reported 89 new patients, with another eight in Liaoning province, and one in Beijing.
