China’s artificial intelligence star DeepSeek has reportedly proven Huawei’s new chip delivers 60 percent of the performance of Nvidia’s H100, which could help reduce China’s reliance on the US chip giant amid Sino-US tensions.
DeepSeek, which triggered a sell-off of Nvidia shares earlier with its low-cost AI model, found that Huawei’s Ascend 910C chips can achieve up to 60 percent of the H100's performance in inference tasks based on the startup’s research, according to a recent article released on WeChat Official Account AGIHunt. Nvidia unveiled the H100 in 2022.
Huawei plans to produce more 910C chips this year to challenge Nvidia's large market share.
DeepSeek announced collaborations with Huawei in recent weeks, as well as with Alibaba (9988), Tencent (0700), Baidu (9888), Microsoft and Nvidia.
In other news, Huawei said its revenue jumped 22 percent to over 860 billion yuan last year, driven by consumer business and smart driving solutions.
Huawei chairman Liang Hua revealed the number at a meeting hosted by the Guangdong Provincial government, adding that the company’s overall operation was in line with expectations.
