Hong Kong football fans are rushing to secure seats for Manchester United's upcoming friendly match against the Hong Kong Representative Team on May 30 at Hong Kong Stadium, with six out of eight ticket tiers having already sold out within a day during the pre-sale phase.
Pre-sale sees massive demand
The pre-sale, available exclusively through Manchester United’s official website from 5.30pm on Tuesday (April 8), saw overwhelming demand.
The six cheapest ticket categories, ranging from HK$390 to HK$1,990, were all snapped up, leaving only the two most expensive options available.
General public sales will begin on Friday (April 11) via Cityline ticketing platform.
Ticket pricing breakdown
The ticket prices are categorized into eight tiers on Cityline's pre-sale platform.
Premium tickets priced at HK$2,990 offer access to suites, boxes, and sideline views near the center of the pitch. Seats near the corner flags are available for HK$2,490, while HK$1,990 gets you seats behind the goals.
Upper-level seating ranges from HK$1,390 to HK$390, with the most affordable option being the HK$390 tickets, putting you at the furthest four top corners at the Hong Kong Stadium.
Hong Kong's busy summer of football
This match adds to a packed summer of high-profile friendlies in Hong Kong, following confirmed visits from Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, and AC Milan.
Charles Cheung Yim-yau, General Secretary of the Hong Kong Football Association (HKFA), revealed that over 10 foreign clubs were interested in holding friendlies in Hong Kong, but the final selection prioritized fan appeal and team prestige.
"We want to bring Hong Kong fans the highest-quality matches, but we must also consider how many fans can realistically attend," he said.
Hong Kong team prepares for Asian Cup Qualifiers
The friendly will serve as a warm-up for Hong Kong’s June Asian Cup qualifier against India, with the team aiming for back-to-back finals appearances.
The HKFA is also working to host the qualifier at the new Kai Tak Sports Park, pending venue arrangements.
Meanwhile, Cheung said another pre-qualifier friendly is planned, though the opponent is yet to be confirmed.
