At 10 am, Yinxing was centered about 560 kilometers northeast of Manila. The Hong Kong Observatory forecasts it to move west-northwest at about 12 kilometers per hour towards the vicinity of the Luzon Strait and intensify gradually.
A path projection for Yinxing shows it could develop into a severe typhoon by Thursday. It was then expected to weaken into a typhoon as it approaches the city on Saturday. Yinxing means ginkgo seeds in Chinese.
Meanwhile, the weather watchdog said a dry northeast monsoon will affect the coast of Guangdong in the next couple of days and the weather will be generally fine and dry with slightly cooler mornings over the region.
Under the influence of the dry northeast monsoon and Yinxing, it will be windy over the south China coastal waters during the weekend and early next week, it added.
