The ongoing controversy surrounding South Korean actor Kim Soo Hyun and the late actress Kim Sae Ron continues to develop as her family has presented evidence of their romantic relationship that allegedly occurred while Kim Sae Ron was a minor.
During a press conference on Thursday, the legal representative for the family clarified that the purpose of the conference was not to publicize Kim Sae Ron's private life, but rather to address unfounded speculations that arose following Kim Soo Hyun's denial of the "facts."
The family submitted Kakao Talk messages purportedly exchanged between the two individuals in 2016, during which Kim Sae Ron was 16 years old. The messages contained terms of endearment, such as "Miss you," "wanna hug," "Chu" (a sound denoting a kiss), and heart emojis, suggesting the onset of a romantic relationship during Kim Sae Ron’s underage status.
Furthermore, the family presented a handwritten letter from Kim Sae Ron to Kim Soo Hyun, dated 2024, in which she indicated they had been in a relationship for a duration of five to six years, referring to Kim Soo Hyun as both her first love and last romance.
The legal representative indicated that the family seeks only a formal apology from Kim Soo Hyun for his denial of the relationship, emphasizing that they do not wish for the public to criticize the actor.
Underage relationship is real: Kim Sae Ron's friend
Prior to the press conference, the YouTube Channel Garosero Research claimed on Wednesday (Mar 26) that Kim Soo Hyun involved in multiple relationships with various women during his six-year liaison with Kim Sae Ron, including two prominent celebrities.
Speaking on the channel, a friend of the late actress revealed that Kim Soo Hyun had dated Kim Sae Ron when she was still underage, and the stress generated by Kim Soo Hyun’s alleged multiple affairs had a detrimental effect on Kim Sae Ron.
The host of the channel claimed that Kim Soo Hyun's purported relationships included well-known figures in the entertainment industry.
Additionally, the program presented audio recordings of conversations with Kim Sae Ron's American husband, who stated that he had not observed significant self-harming behavior exhibited by Kim Sae Ron during their relationship.
Regarding Kim Sae Ron's mental health, the husband remarked that their relationship did not endure long enough for him to form a comprehensive judgment, although he recounted witnessing episodes in which she scratched herself with a toothpick.
When asked if Kim Sae Ron had mentioned her relationship with Kim Soo Hyun to her husband, he indicated that it was part of her past and he preferred not to discuss it extensively, although he did recall Kim mentioning an ex-boyfriend of six years.
