Justin Trudeau's ex-wife Sophie Gregoire has spoken publicly for the first time about the former Canadian prime minister's relationship with American pop star Katy Perry.
During a recent podcast appearance on "Arlene is Alone", Gregoire addressed the attention surrounding her ex-husband's new romance when host Arlene Dickinson praised her for remaining "calm" about the situation.
"You know, we're all human and we're all affected by what's going on outside of us, that's normal," Gregoire said. "How you choose to deal with it is your choice. So I choose to listen to the music and not the noise."
She added she was "very aware that a lot of the information that is public can be triggering" but emphasized that "how I deal with it is my choice."
Gregoire clarified she wasn't suppressing emotions, stating: "I will allow myself to feel disappointed in someone, I will allow myself to feel angry, I will allow myself to feel sad. And I'm very aware, as a mental health advocate, how important it is to feel those feelings."
When the host referred to her as a "single mom," Gregoire corrected the description. "I'm definitely not a single mom," she said. "I'm co-parenting with a father who loves his children deeply and is always there for them."
Gregoire and Trudeau announced their separation in August 2023 after marrying in 2005 and having three children together.
Trudeau and Perry were first spotted together in September, but their relationship became public in October when they attended Paris' Crazy Horse cabaret for Perry's birthday and left holding hands.
