New Zealand’s Auckland City FC, the only amateur team at this year’s FIFA Club World Cup, where it famously scored against Boca Juniors, suffered a social media breach on Monday when dozens of explicit women’s photos flooded its official Instagram and Facebook stories.
The club—currently third in the New Zealand National League with two wins from five matches and eight points—normally posts only match highlights and training footage.
Around 2pm Hong Kong time today, the accounts began rapidly uploading the unrelated and risqué images, instantly raising suspicions of a hack or accidental upload among fans.
The content stayed online for over six hours before deletion.
By evening, Auckland City released a statement confirming a cybersecurity incident had hit both platforms. It is working closely with government authorities and digital security experts to investigate and fix the issue.
The club stressed that the safety and integrity of its online presence remain top priorities, and it is taking every necessary measure to restore full control.
Supporters were thanked for their understanding, with more details promised as the probe continues.
