The cross-cultural music theatre performance, Beautiful Hong Kong 2.0, which blends music, dance, video, and calligraphy to showcase local customs and promote Chinese culture, will be staged at Hong Kong City Hall in September.
The performance is composed, written, and directed by Mui Kwong-chiu, the chairman of the Hong Kong Composers' Guild.
Mui said the performance will feature a martial artist performing Tai Chi accompanied by traditional instruments, including the xiao and guzheng, while video projections of Lion Rock will demonstrate the aesthetic harmony of heaven and earth.
Another act, titled Ink Dance, features Chinese dance complemented by percussion, the dizi, and the erhu.
Mui explained that the dancers' feet will act as brushstrokes, projecting ink wash reflections on the stage screen, while calligrapher Tam Po-shek performs live calligraphy.
He added that the show will also incorporate local cultural elements, such as the Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance and the Cheung Chau Piu Sik parade.
The theatre production is part of the performing arts program under the Chinese Culture Festival 2026, which aims to promote Chinese culture and attract top-notch artists and arts groups from both the mainland and other parts of the world for cultural exchanges.
