Departments from Hong Kong and Shenzhen held their first large-scale cross-border pressure test at the Huanggang Port on Saturday, mobilizing up to 10,000 individuals.
The comprehensive exercise aimed to test the port's capacity limits for both passenger and vehicle traffic during peak operating hours ahead of its upcoming opening.
Following the conclusion of the drill, an interdepartmental team immediately convened a review meeting to identify areas for improvement and actively optimize various facilities.
During the passenger flow portion of the test, participants traveled from various districts using different modes of public transportation to arrive at the port.
They then processed their immigration clearance using the new cooperative automated channels and traditional manned counters before heading to the public transport interchange to depart.
In addition to monitoring passenger movement, authorities incorporated vehicle flow pressure tests into the drill. These specific assessments involved simulating traffic routing and conducting saturation control evaluations to ensure smooth cross-border operations.
Chief Secretary for Administration Eric Chan Kwok-ki, Secretary for Security Chris Tang Ping-keung, and Director of Immigration Benson Kwok Joon-fung visited the site during the exercise to personally inspect every stage of the customs clearance process.
At the Hong Kong-Shenzhen boundary line, Kwok also met with Xu Xiaowei, the Director General of the Shenzhen General Station of Exit and Entry Frontier Inspection.
The Hong Kong side acknowledged the strong support and close coordination provided by the Shenzhen authorities, which allowed the joint drill to be executed smoothly.
