A 67-year-old taxi driver died after being trapped between his taxi and a seven-seater private car in a crash in Tseung Kwan O early Sunday morning (Aug 23).
The accident happened at around 5am on Wan Po Road near Nan Fung Plaza, after the taxi suffered a tyre blowout.
The driver had picked up a passenger at Hin Ming Court and was heading towards Kowloon Bay when the taxi's left rear tyre burst.
The driver stopped by the roadside and got out to check the tyre. A seven-seater private car carrying passengers then crashed into the rear of the taxi.
The driver was trapped between the two vehicles and suffered serious injuries. Firefighters freed him before he was taken to Tseung Kwan O Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6.58am.
The 35-year-old private car driver sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Passengers in both vehicles were uninjured.
Police arrested the driver on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death and are investigating the cause of the crash, including the private car's speed and road conditions.
