The 49-second video circulating online shows the bearded driver smoking as the taxi moves slowly through an area where an accident had caused congestion.
The female passenger is heard asking the driver not to smoke, saying she suffers from nasal allergies.
The driver responds by exhaling smoke and telling her to open the window, saying he was already “so frustrated” by the traffic jam.
The passenger replies that she was also frustrated, adding that she had just had an argument with someone.
The driver continues smoking and says he will open the window to let the smoke out.
The passenger appears to cough before asking: “Can’t you smoke?” She says she does not want to inhale secondhand smoke.
The driver again tells her he will open the window. The passenger then asks whether he should have checked with passengers before smoking, stressing that she does not smoke.
The video has drawn criticism online, with users pointing out that smoking is prohibited inside taxis and urging the passenger to report the driver.
Some users also criticized the driver for smoking while carrying a passenger.
