Cathay has partnered with the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA) to unveil a striking new contemporary art aircraft livery, “Spirit of Hong Kong – 80th Anniversary Edition” on Monday.
Inspired by Gallery In The Skies curated artwork collection in Cathay Pacific’s Boeing 777-300ER Business class cabins, the aircraft features an innovative artwork by Hong Kong multimedia artist Victor Wong.
Over the past 30 years, Cathay Pacific has launched a total of four generations of the " Spirit of Hong Kong” aircraft livery.
Cathay Group chief executive officer Ronald Lam Siu-por said that the design of the new livery is futuristic, symbolizing Hong Kong's embrace of innovation and its forward-looking attitude.
The aircraft will feature the logo of the West Kowloon Cultural District, with the hope that the " Spirit of Hong Kong" will serve as a cultural ambassador, telling the Hong Kong story with every flight
Bernard Charnwut Chan, chairman of the Board of the WKCDA, stated that this collaboration symbolizes the synergy between the aviation and cultural sectors.
Chan noted that the initiative not only promotes the development of Hong Kong's culture but also enriches the city's tourism experience, bringing the creative spirit of local artists to the global stage.
He added that the draft outline of the National 15th Five-Year Plan explicitly includes support for Hong Kong's development as an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange.
He emphasized that Hong Kong should continue to promote cultural exchange between China and the rest of the world, noting that cross-sector collaboration is key to fostering the synergistic development of culture, sports, and tourism.
Addtionally, acclaimed Hong Kong pianist, composer and music producer, Patrick Lui and his band will deliver a live performance of the newly rearranged Song of Cathay at the boarding gate to celebrate the occasion.
