Cathay and the Hong Kong Youth Aviation Academy (HKYAA) have teamed up to launch two exciting innovative initiatives – AeroQuiz and the Cathay Inter-school Aviation Challenge Cup (CISACC) – to foster interest and curiosity in the aviation industry and encourage youth engagement.
A launch ceremony was held on June 28 at Cathay City in Hong Kong, attended by Under Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs of the Hong Kong SAR Government, Clarence Leung, as guest of honor and other distinguished guests. Also joined by students from different secondary schools across Hong Kong, the event was buzzing with excitement dynamic exchanges among all participants.
In his opening remarks, Leung said that he especially “appreciated how Cathay has transformed complex aviation concepts into lively and accessible quiz questions.” He also mentioned that AeroQuiz features rich content covering aviation history and theories, enabling young people to “explore the world of aviation in a fun and engaging competition format.”
AeroQuiz, an interactive online aviation quiz platform developed by HKYAA and sponsored by Cathay, is a collaborative effort to nurture the city’s aviation enthusiasts. It features two streams – one for secondary schools and another for the general public – with new aviation-themed questions added daily at 7:25pm from June 28 until November 30 this year.
Participants can earn points and coins based on correct answers. To incentivize active participation, top scorers will be able to win exciting prizes such as aviation-themed gifts and experiences while competing on the leaderboard.
The AeroQuiz leaderboard also serves as a qualifier for CISACC participants by narrowing down the top 16 best performing secondary schools in AeroQuiz. CISACC will take place on December 13, 2025, a few months after the school stream of AeroQuiz concludes.
CISACC will gather the top 16 secondary school teams to compete in a series of live aviation knowledge-themed challenges through teamwork and problem solving. A range of attractive prizes such as overseas aviation-focused trips, round-trip flight tickets within Asia and simulator experiences will be awarded to winning teams to inspire and celebrate the next generation of aviation enthusiasts.
Building on the success of Cathay’s flagship youth development program “I Can Fly”, these two initiatives further expand accessibility to all secondary students and the general public, inviting more individuals to discover the boundless opportunities in aviation.
AeroQuiz is already seeing promising results, with several hundred people signing up within the first hour of its launch. Andy Wong, Cathay General Manager Corporate Affairs, said the Cathay team has high hopes for the two programs.
Wong said that the aviation industry offers a diverse range of career paths beyond roles like pilots and cabin crew, adding that through AeroQuiz and CISACC, Cathay hopes to enhance participants’ aviation knowledge and connect them with opportunities to join the industry in the future.

When asked about the possibility of expanding the programs to the wider Greater Bay Area, Captain Patrick Lau, Chairman of HKYAA, responded: “It might be our next step. We want to build a good foundation first as this is only our first year, but we would love to expand our reach if possible.”
Some of the students are very keen on beginning preparations, already forming teams and planning to tackle the quiz together. They shared that Cathay’s “I Can Fly” program has sparked their initial interest in aviation and inspired them to participate in more aviation-related activities.
Kwong Kei-tung, a student participant from St Francis’ Canossian College, said that she hopes more of her schoolmates will learn about aviation. “Many people might not realize that girls’ schools often have less exposure to aviation or may not be very familiar with it. We want to change that by promoting aviation within our own school, encouraging more girls to explore this field and break stereotypes.”
Cathay and HKYAA encourage young people from all walks of life to engage in these new initiatives and help cultivate an environment where Hong Kong continues to flourish as a leading global aviation hub. More on AeroQuiz and CISACC can be found on Cathay’s CISACC website, or through HERE.
