Lawmaker Andrew Fan Chun-wah will put forward two proposals with a total of six suggestions at the upcoming "Two Sessions" in Beijing, with a focus on strengthening patriotic education and promoting Chinese Medicine.
The first proposal aims to enhance patriotic education for young people by using technology to bolster the nation's cultural soft power. Fan, the son of former NPC Standing Committee member Rita Fan Hsu Lai-tai, suggests establishing a joint co-ordinating body and setting up a Hong Kong-based center to integrate mainland and local resources to support the initiative.
He also suggests focusing on creating immersive, educational tech-cultural products and games tailored for different age groups to foster national identity.
He will also propose a special research & development fund to promote collaboration between industry and academia and to position Hong Kong as an international window for development and communication.
Fan's second proposal, co-ordinated with a cross-sector concern group, seeks to deepen Chinese Medicine-featured cultural tourism, education, and international exchange.
The proposal calls for establishing overseas cultural display platforms, promoting the deep integration of Chinese Medicine with cultural tourism, and building multi-dimensional international exchange platforms supported by a special fund and digital technology.
He will also urge leveraging Hong Kong's advantages by establishing an international center and an exchange internship base, which would strengthen cooperation with mainland authorities and transform the city into a hub for Chinese Medicine's internationalization.
The "Two Sessions," comprising the fourth session of the 14th National People's Congress and the fourth session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, will convene on March 5 and March 4, respectively, to deliberate on the 15th Five-Year Plan.
