A 52-year-old man was arrested on Saturday after allegedly attacking a garbage truck with a knife and other weapons in Tsuen Wan, causing pedestrians to flee in fear.
The incident occurred around 2pm. According to police, the Leung surnamed man, reportedly unhappy about cleaning work, first took three 90cm aluminum bars and a 50cm wooden stick from Chuen Lung Street and used them to strike an operating garbage truck.
He then entered a nearby frozen meat shop, seized a 30cm watermelon knife and a 24cm pair of scissors, and returned to continue damaging the truck.
Online footage shows the garbage truck stopped in the road with hazard lights on. A man in black with blonde hair walks out of the shop holding the large knife, points it at the driver, and shouts angrily. The driver immediately closed his window. The man then walked onto the pavement, causing pedestrians to scatter. He was last seen entering a nearby alley. No injuries were reported.
Police later located the man on Luen Yan Street and arrested him on suspicion of "possession of an offensive weapon" and "criminal damage."
