4 held in $10b fake cheque bid

Police arrested four people on Tuesday afternoon after they allegedly attempted to cash a fake cheque worth US$10 billion (HK$78 billion) at a bank in Sai Wan.

The incident occurred around 3pm at a bank branch located at The Belcher’s on Belcher’s Street. Staff became suspicious when the group presented the massive cheque for withdrawal and immediately alerted the authorities.

Upon arrival, officers arrested two Vietnamese women, one local man, and one mainland man on suspicion of uttering a forged document.

The four suspects are currently being held for investigation. The female victim (bank representative) was not injured, and no funds were lost in the attempt.
