Football Association chairman Eric Fok Kai-shan suggests Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau should jointly bid for the Asian Cup to enhance their international standing.
Fok, who is also a standing committee member of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, made the proposal during the opening of the committee's fourth session in Guangzhou.
He says multi-region joint hosting has become a global trend and the Greater Bay Area possesses sufficient influence and experience. He notes that using coordination mechanisms and venue legacies from the National Games for an Asian Cup bid is a strategic and economic move.
Fok suggests seeking policy support for cross-border customs clearance and foreign exchange settlements. He also calls for simplified procedures for international players, materials and capital to boost the competitiveness of the bid.
