Man waving cleaver arrested at Tsuen Wan McDonald’s back staircase

A 36-year-old Nepalese Hong Kong ID holder was arrested on Saturday morning for possession of an offensive weapon after waving around a cleaver in a Tsuen Wan McDonald's.

Shortly before 9am today, a member of the public reported seeing him brandishing a 30 cm cleaver in the back staircase of a McDonald’s at the junction of Tsuen Wan Market Street and Chuen Lung Street.

Police arrived quickly with shields, subdued the man without resistance, seized the cleaver, and found only fruits, chips, and miscellaneous items in his backpack. No one was injured.

The unemployed suspect, who lives with siblings in Tsuen Wan, reportedly works occasional site labor, frequently lingers in the area, and has shown abnormal behavior—including talking to himself—for the past 2–3 years without seeking medical help. 

He was taken to the police station, hooded for further investigation.
