The Fire Services Department recently published a special memorial booklet to honor Senior Fireman Ho Wai-ho, who died battling the Tai Po fire.
The cover titled “Braving the flames without regard for life, exemplifying noble character; a loyal heart sets a model to inspire comrades.”
The content praises Ho for stepping forward without fear when citizens were in danger; his courage will be forever remembered by Hong Kong people, noting that Ho’s dedication, loyalty, and selflessness will be etched in the hearts of every member of the FSD.
The booklet includes tributes from Director of Fire Services Andy Yeung Yan-kin, Ho’s fiancée, his elder and younger brothers, and many colleagues.
Yeung praised Ho for sacrificing himself for the people and displaying noble character, calling him “a hero who fulfilled the firefighting mission with his precious life; his shining deeds establish a model of bravery.”
His fiancée,kiki, wrote: “Being Wai-ho’s fiancée is the honor of my life. You’re not only my pride, but also the pride of all Hong Kong people. May everyone always remember Wai-ho’s selfless dedication, and the warmth and strength he brought to the world.”
The booklet noted that Ho joined the government in 2009, first serving as a police constable who then joined the Fire Services Department in 2016 and was stationed at Sha Tin Fire Station.
Over more than nine years with the FSD, he took part in many firefighting and rescue operations. In 2019, he actively joined pandemic control efforts and took on special duties. He received a letter of appreciation from the Chief Secretary in December 2020, and a Senior Command Commendation in December 2023.
The FSD stressed: “Ho Wai-ho’s bravery, fearlessness, and selfless professionalism set a model that will be forever remembered by the people of Hong Kong.”
To honor his sacrifice in heading into danger, the FSD posthumously awarded Ho the honorary rank of Senior Fireman, held a highest-honors funeral for him, and laid him to rest at Gallant Garden.
