The relief fund established after the fatal Wang Fuk Court fire has grown to approximately HK$4.1 billion, the government announced on Monday.
The "Tai Po Wang Fuk Court Assistance Fund" has received about HK$3.8 billion in public donations as of Monday afternoon, combined with the government's initial HK$300 million injection.
The fund has disbursed a HK$100,000 living subsidy to 1,935 affected households. For each deceased victim, HK$200,000 in condolence money and HK$50,000 for funeral expenses have been provided in 146 cases.
The government also outlined three new support measures: a HK$100,000 subsidy for Wang Fuk Court owners, an annual rental subsidy of HK$150,000 for two years, and a one-time HK$50,000 relocation allowance for owners. Affected tenants will receive a one-time HK$50,000 relocation allowance. Disbursements are ongoing.
Social workers have contacted over 1,980 affected households, providing "one family, one social worker" services to more than 4,900 residents.
Regarding accommodation, 516 residents are staying in hotel rooms coordinated by the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau, while 568 are in youth hostels or campsites. Another 3,513 residents are housed in transitional housing, Hong Kong Housing Society projects, or temporary housing at Po Tin in Tuen Mun.
