Crowds packed Victoria Park on the second day of the 59th Hong Kong Brands and Products Expo, with exhibitors projecting sales growth of at least 20 percent as the newly launched Senior Vitality Zone emerged as a major draw.
A festive atmosphere filled the park ahead of the Lunar New Year, with vendors offering discounted “lucky bag” sets that proved popular among families doing holiday shopping.
“I bought caterpillar fungus, Chinese pickled vegetables, also known as zha cai, jellyfish, along with some bean and sesame powder, spending around HK$15,000, a bit pricier than last year,” said Cheung, one of the visitors.
She added that the expo was “packed with people,” reflecting what she described as a vibrant local consumer market.
The new Senior Vitality Zone drew strong interest from elderly shoppers, featuring traditional Chinese medicine products, health supplements, and tailored consultations designed to meet seniors’ needs.
To further promote the so-called “silver economy,” more than 100 exhibitors are offering discounts of at least 5 percent to holders of senior citizen cards or JoyYou cards.
Chiu, a visitor in his 70s, said he was keen to learn more about healthy living. “I did not set a budget—I will buy what I like, as long as it suits our family and makes us happy,” he said.
With the steady flow of visitors, health products vendor Lam said he was optimistic about sales. “Most of our visitors are seniors, which aligns perfectly with our products. I’m expecting at least a 20 percent increase in sales,” he said.
The expo’s newly added Hometown Flavors Zone also attracted large crowds, with visitors sampling regional specialties such as Sichuan walnuts. “I’m here for the food,” one attendee said.
The 24-day expo runs until January 5 and is open daily from 11am to 9pm. Admission is HK$10, with free entry offered after 7pm.
