More than 1,400 households affected by the devastating Tai Po fire have been rehoused in temporary accommodation, with hundreds of additional units standing by for families still in need, Housing Secretary Winnie Ho Wing-yin said.
In a social media post on Sunday, Ho said that as of noon, a total of 1,424 households, comprising 3,230 residents, had been relocated to transitional housing units provided by the Housing Bureau and the Hong Kong Housing Society (HKHS).
She said about 380 transitional housing units and 90 flats under the HKHS remain available for affected families.
In addition, two households, involving five individuals, have moved into Po Tin Interim Housing Estate in Tuen Mun. Ho said that 300 units at Po Tin Estate have already been allocated, with plans to increase the number to 500 within the coming week.
Ho noted that transitional flats provided by the HKHS and the Housing Authority have become a preferred option for residents who require elevator access.
She expressed gratitude to the HKHS for its continued cooperation and for going “the extra mile” to prepare daily necessities for affected families, including beds, tables, chairs, electrical appliances, and toilet paper.
Ho reaffirmed the government’s commitment to assisting all affected residents of Wang Fuk Court in securing stable housing as soon as possible.
