The two-day event themed “Temple Journey”, features intangible cultural heritage elements such as shadow puppetry, handmade paper crafting, and Canton porcelain painting workshops, as well as guided temple tours to give visitors deeper insight into temple traditions.
It will also include game booths inspired by six declared monuments — including Hung Shing Temple in Ap Lei Chau, Kwun Yum Temple in Hung Hom, and Hau Wong Temple in Kowloon City — and two Grade 1 historic temples.
Organisers noted that temples serve as both cultural anchors and community centres, reflecting Hong Kong’s social evolution across its districts and islands.
A new mobile app will also be launched to help users explore temples, uncover their unique architectural features, historical stories, and community connections.
Ahead of the main festival, a “Temple Journey Cultural Tour” was organised, focusing on six declared monuments and two Grade 1 historic temples. The tours had offered expert commentary and trained a group of student ambassadors to help pass temple culture on to the younger generation.
