Hong Kong "flying fish" Siobhan Haughey powered to the fastest overall time in the women’s 100m freestyle preliminaries at the 15th National Games, clocking 54.29 seconds to top her heat and secure a semifinal berth this evening.
Haughey hit the wall first at the 50-meter mark in 25.99 seconds and never looked back, maintaining a commanding lead to finish well clear of the field.
Teammates Li Sum-yiu and Gilaine Ma also advanced comfortably from a separate heat, posting 55.40 and 56.04, respectively, to join Haughey among the top qualifiers.
Li described the morning effort as solid for an early session and said she would focus on recovery before pushing to eclipse her personal best in the next round.
Ma noted that several strong rivals had yet to swim, calling her progression fortunate, and promised to savor the competition while giving her all in the evening race.
