The National Games torch relay takes place at the beginning of next month ahead of the events, co-hosted by Hong Kong, Macau, and Guangdong, according to Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu.
Speaking before the Executive Council on Tuesday (Oct 24), the city leader noted that authorities are planning Hong Kong's leg of the route to showcase the city’s cultural and sports characteristics.
Torchbearers will include individuals from the sports community and various other sectors, with details to be announced in due course.
Lee added that Hong Kong has completed the test events for the National Games, which will kick off on November 9, followed by the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities to be held from December 8 to 15.
He stated that detailed plans have been formulated for all aspects, including security, crowd management, and transportation arrangements.
The city is expected to welcome approximately 4,000 participants, including athletes and media personnel, while 16,000 volunteers from various sectors will serve in different roles.
The Hong Kong team will send 600 athletes to participate in 28 events, and Lee will preside over the flag presentation ceremony on Wednesday.
Additionally, he expressed a commitment to hosting a safe and splendid sports event and hopes for the support of all citizens to showcase the city's hospitality.
