With the 15th National Games just 40 days away, Hong Kong is preparing to send its largest-ever delegation, comprising nearly 700 athletes.
Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Rosanna Law Shuk-pui, said the contingent will be almost four times the size of the city's team at the previous Games.
This year's event is historically significant as the first National Games to be jointly hosted by the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Hong Kong will serve as a co-host city for eight competition events and one mass participation sport.
These events will be staged at key venues across the city, such as the new Kai Tak Sports Park, the Hong Kong Coliseum, Victoria Harbour, and Victoria Park.
In a social media post, Law credited the government's sustained policy support and funding from the Legislative Council for fostering the city's athletic development. She also expressed gratitude to the Sports Institute, the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC), and various sports associations for their unwavering support.
"Their efforts have created a stable environment for our athletes to focus on their training," she said.
Expressing strong confidence in the team, Law highlighted the notable successes achieved by Hong Kong athletes in recent international competitions. She conveyed high expectations for them to deliver peak performances in the upcoming Games.
“While we hope our athletes reach new heights, it is also important that they do not feel overly pressured. Enjoying the competition is what matters most,” she remarked.
Meanwhile, the official encouraged the public to purchase tickets to show their support for the Hong Kong team and to cheer for their favourite athletes from across the nation.
