In a social media post on Thursday, Citybus confirmed the health of the 65-year-old driver, Law, who recorded an energetic voice message expressing his gratitude for the public concern.
"I'm fine; the doctors have cleared me,” Law stated.
After several days of treatment, Law shared that he is feeling good but will take it easy on his steps.
Law also took the opportunity to thank his wife and colleagues for their support and expressed eagerness to return to work, saying, "I look forward to seeing my regular passengers again."
Citybus praised Law for his professional response during the incident, noting that he safely parked the bus to ensure the passengers' safety, earning accolades from the community.
The company also expressed its wishes for Law’s swift recovery and confirmed ongoing support as he recuperates at home.
Additionally, Citybus stated they would follow up with the authorities regarding the case, emphasizing their commitment to ensuring the safety of both drivers and passengers.
According to Citybus Corporate Affairs Manager John Yu’s earlier statement on a radio program, Law had spotted a nearly one-meter-long metal rod on the road and attempted to steer clear.
Unfortunately, a nearby vehicle ran over the rod, sending it crashing through the windshield and hitting Law’s left chest.
The incident occurred around 5.46pm Monday (Sep 15) as the Route 967 bus was traveling through the Tai Lam Tunnel towards Yuen Long.
Despite being struck by the 1.5-meter-long metal rod, Law managed to slow down and stop the bus, preventing further accidents.
The driver was conscious when he was transported to Pok Oi Hospital for treatment.
Following investigation, a 43-year-old driver of a truck surnamed Tsang has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and is currently remanded in custody.
