A tow truck driver was threatened with an iron rod after refusing to service what he described as a "Drug delivery car" on Island Eastern Corridor, leading to the arrest of a 21-year-old man.
The incident occurred in the early hours of August 14 when the tow truck driver responded to a service call. Upon arrival, he identified the private vehicle as being involved in drug activities and declined the job. The situation escalated when the private car driver allegedly became angry and threatened him.
Footage from the tow truck's dashcam showed the driver arguing with the private car owner, who then retrieved an approximately 60-centimeter iron rod from his trunk and threw it toward the tow truck. The frightened tow truck driver quickly returned to his vehicle and drove away.
Officers of the anti-triad unit in Eastern district investigated the case and arrested a 21-year-old local man surnamed Lai in Tsing Yi on Tuesday. Police also located the involved private car in a Tsing Yi parking lot, where they discovered two boxes and two packages of suspected Cannabis edible, one container believed to contain etomidate, and four packages of suspected cannabis flowers with an estimated street value of HK$14,000.
The arrested man was detained on suspicion of criminal intimidation, possession of an offensive weapon, and trafficking dangerous drugs. The case continues to be investigated by Eastern District anti-triad unit.
