Police received a report on Wednesday afternoon from St. Antonius Primary School, where an eight-year-old boy was suspected of being mistreated.
The school, located in Yau Tong, reported that the boy had injuries to his hands and feet, suggesting possible mistreatment at around 12.53pm. Paramedics arrived on scene and sent the boy to United Christian Hospital for treatment.
It was understood that the principal of the school was in a meeting and had not yet commented on the incident.
Following an initial investigation, police have classified the case as child abuse, and no arrests have been made at the time.
The Mandatory Reporting of Child Abuse Ordinance (the Ordinance) will come into effect in January 2026. Under the Ordinance, specified professionals in the social welfare sector, education sector and healthcare sector are mandated to report serious child abuse cases.
