With the unveiling of the Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS) results today (Aug 6), the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) has welcomed seven of the 16 top scorers from this year’s Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (DSE), marking the beginning of their journeys into the medical field.
CUHK admits the highest number of top scorers
According to reports, CUHK has admitted one "ultimate top scorer" (achieving full marks in all eight subjects) and four "super top scorers" (achieving full marks in seven subjects), as well as two top scorers with six subjects scoring 5**—the highest number among all universities in Hong Kong.
These seven outstanding students will enroll in the Medicine (MBChB) Program Global Physician-Leadership Stream (GPS), which includes the ultimate top scorer Wang Haibo from Hong Kong Chinese Women's Club College, the super top scorer Wong Wang-chi from Po Leung Kuk Tang Yuk Tien College and top scorer Wang Yuen-ting from the Hong Kong Taoist Association Tang Hin Memorial Secondary School.
In addition to these high achievers, CUHK also admitted 18 students who attained 5** in five subjects, the highest figure among local institutions.
Notably, half of the city’s top 100 students in their best five HKDSE subjects were admitted to CUHK, marking the fourth consecutive year that CUHK has maintained an admission rate of 50 percent or more for these students.
Students with a score of 33 or above in their best five subjects have been admitted to 14 programs or streams in CUHK, covering areas ranging from artificial intelligence to biomedical science, computer science, and engineering.
HKU welcomes 5 top scorers
Meanwhile, the University of Hong Kong (HKU) disclosed that it has accepted five top scorers, along with over 60 students scoring 5** in four subjects or higher, enrolling in various programs spanning medicine, business administration, and data science.
It is confirmed that top scorer Audrey Wong Wing-tin from Diocesan Girls’ School and Ryan Yung Cheuk-yin from King’s College will be attending HKU.
HKU further stated that overall admission scores have improved compared to last year, with an average best 5-subject score exceeding 30 points under the new scoring system.
