The travel agencies in Hong Kong have confirmed that all tour groups currently located in Japan are safe and that their itineraries remain largely unaffected following the issuance of a tsunami warning due to a significant earthquake in Russia's Far East.
Both WWPKG and EGL Tours stated that while some coastal sightseeing activities may require adjustments, all tours are proceeding normally, and those scheduled to depart for the upcoming week will proceed as planned.
Yuen Chun-ning, the Executive Director of WWPKG, said Wednesday that there are currently 10 tour groups in Japan, all of which are safe.
He noted that one group traveling in the Tohoku region cancelled its planned Matsushima sightseeing boat activities this morning in response to the tsunami warning.
The group has also decided not to visit Godaido Temple and Zuigan Temple, given their proximity to the coast. Itineraries will be modified as necessary, as Yuen emphasized that the safety of passengers is the top priority.
He added that over a dozen groups are scheduled to depart in the coming week, including to Hokkaido, Tohoku, Tokyo, Osaka, and Fukuoka.
Steve Huen Kwok-chuen, executive director of travel agency EGL Tours, said around 30 tour groups are traveling in Japan and all of them are safe.
He said the itineraries of the tour groups remain largely unaffected as the group rarely engage in water activities.
