Police are searching for a non-Chinese man who is suspected of being involved in the mysterious missing person case in Cheung Sha Wan, as the investigation points to a potential murder. The girlfriend of the suspect was arrested.
The case centers on a 49-year-old Vietnamese woman, identified as Lisa, who was reported missing last Saturday (Jun 21) after leaving home at around 12.10pm.
Superintendent Gar Kam-lam of the Kowloon West regional crime headquarters noted on Wednesday that Lisa was not seen leaving the building on 152 Castle Peak Road after entering with the male suspect, who holds going-out passes.
The suspect was later observed entering and exiting the building multiple times, carrying several garbage bags that were discarded in back alleys and street trash bins. Bloodstains were also discovered in the unit involved.
The discarded items had been transported to the West New Territories Landfill, where police are conducting forensic searches for critical evidence, Gar said.
Police have also seized various items as evidence, including clothing, bottles of bleach and cleaning agents, a rice cooker, and pieces of wooden furniture. Among the seized items was also the handle of what appeared to be a Japanese-style sword.
Gar added that initial investigations do not rule out the possibility that the suspect and the alleged victim knew each other, suggesting the case may have stemmed from a financial dispute.
Furthermore, police have also arrested the suspect's 25-year-old girlfriend for allegedly assisting him in finding a hiding place.
No connection has yet been established between the arrested woman and the missing person.
When asked whether the suspect remains in Hong Kong, the superintendent declined to disclose details but confirmed that officers have obtained substantial leads regarding the suspect's movements.
Gar reiterated the importance of avoiding the term "corpse" at this stage, as many uncertainties remain while efforts continue to locate the missing woman.
He also declined to comment on the possibility of the victim being deceased, emphasizing that no conclusions have been drawn and forensic analysis is still underway.
