Kai Tak Sports Park (KTSP) has reinforced its ban on ticket resales after suite tickets for Asian pop star Jay Chou’s upcoming concerts—priced at HK$7,000 each—were discovered being illicitly traded on social media.
Scalpers reportedly advertised the suite tickets for Chou’s June 27 to 30 performances, offering delivery by mail or in-person collection. They also claimed the tickets would not require identity verification, citing Hong Kong’s lack of a real-name ticketing system.
Responding to media inquiries Monday, KTSP stated it takes the violations seriously and has reminded suite holders to adhere to rental terms prohibiting resale. The venue also warned that breaches could lead to termination of rental agreements.
Meanwhile, lawmaker Adrian Pedro Ho King-hong urged the government to promote real-name ticketing systems for major events.
He proposed collaborations with social media and resale platforms to enforce identity verification and price caps on secondary sales.
Ho also called for increased penalties for scalpers, with offenders now facing a maximum fine of HK$2,000 under the Places of Public Entertainment Ordinance.
Scalpers are earning much more than this, he noted.
Additionally, he proposed granting police greater enforcement powers, including the ability to freeze suspicious resale platform accounts and shut down illicit ticket-trading platforms.
