The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) is thrilled to present a three-part series of Performing Arts Fun Days, with the first series commencing in Yuen Long on Sunday (May 18).
The first Performing Arts Fun Day will take place at the Yuen Long Theatre. Guests will be treated to live performances and workshops featuring handbells, choir Cantonese opera, dance, and guzheng.
For those curious about what happens behind the scenes, guided stage tours will offer a rare opportunity to explore the theatre’s backstage, where participants can learn about its equipment and operations. Additionally, to celebrate Yuen Long Theatre’s 25th anniversary, there will also be storytelling sessions, book displays, and a commemorative exhibition at the foyer.
The second Fun Day will unfold at the Kwai Tsing Theatre on May 25. The day will feature jazzy tunes performed by the Hong Kong Jazz Collective of Count-In Music, alongside a cappella pop songs by Boonfaysau and the 18dART Community Arts Scheme.
Apart from the lively tunes, the Ming Ri Institute For Arts Education will bring a whimsical interactive theatre performance titled "The Kingdom of Fairy Tales" while the Kwai Chung & Tsing Yi District Culture & Arts Co-ordinating Association will dazzle audiences with their dance showcase.
The final Performing Arts Fun Day takes place at Sha Tin Town Hall on June 8. Highlights include Chinese classical and ethnic dance performances by the Hong Kong Dance Company, paired with an interactive appreciation session. Cantonese opera lovers can also enjoy an experimental theatre performance and join an accessories workshop by the Cantonese Opera Advancement Association. Furthermore, guided tours of the City Art Square will showcase stunning public sculptures and installations by renowned artists in the outdoor spaces around the venue.
Admission to the Fun Days is free, although some activities will require tickets due to limited places. Tickets are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. For more details, visit the official websites of Yuen Long Theatre, Kwai Tsing Theatre, and Sha Tin Town Hall.
