At 4 pm, Prapiroon was estimated to be about 660 kilometers south-southwest of Hong Kong and will make landfall over Hainan Island in the early morning tomorrow (Jul 22).
Depending on the change in Prapiroon's intensity and local wind conditions, the Observatory will assess the need to issue higher tropical cyclone warning signals by then.
Squally showers associated with Prapiroon are affecting the vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary, while there are occasionally strong winds offshore and on high ground in Hong Kong.
The weather watchdog advised the public to stay away from the shoreline, not to engage in water sports, and to take note of the latest weather information.
It added that there will still be a few squally showers and thunderstorms on Monday, with sunny periods and a few showers in the following days.
