Albert Ho Chun-yan, one of the former leaders of the defunct Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China, was arrested by the national security police on Tuesday morning over a witness tampering charge, according to a source.
It is learned that Ho, the ex-lawmaker and lawyer, was taken away from his residential flat in Tin Hau, being handcuffed and escorted by the police on suspicion of interfering with witnesses and perverting the course of public justice while on bail.
Ho was arrested and detained in 2021 for participating in multiple pro-democracy demonstrations and Tiananmen crackdown vigil groups before being convicted of breaching the national security law by organizing and inciting others to join unauthorized assemblies inciting subversion of state power.
He applied and was granted bail by the High Court last August. The conditions of bail included that he must provide HK$700,000 in cash, surrender his travel documents and not leave Hong Kong, and refrain from contacting any foreign persons and publishing any statements that would be considered to endanger national security.
