A 10-meter-high banyan tree crushed a lamp post in Mong Kok during the typhoon this morning, causing the street to be blocked to vehicles.
It is learned from the scene that the old tree was uprooted by high winds at around 9am this morning near the Mong Kok East Station in Luen Wan Street, crushing a lamp post in the street and crashing into a building on the opposite side.
Firefighters rushed to the site to cut the tree up and move it aside, with the street once temporarily closed to any vehicular traffic. Buses that terminated at the bus stop nearby the site were asked to move to other stops.
Separately, a yacht was found sunken in Yau Ma Tei Typhoon Shelter this morning at around 6am. Frogmen from the Fire Service and Marine Police came to the scene, searching the water for approximately one hour but found no casualties.
