Some doctors are so accustomed to people seeking medical treatment just for getting sick leave certificates that they do not care about the diagnosis anymore.
A patient who had diarrhea recently went to a doctor, only to be asked this: "How many days of sick leave do you want?”
He posted on the Hong Kong Discuss Forum that he felt unwell after having dinner with his friends. He got diarrhea in the morning, and suspected that it had to do with unhygienic seafood he ate.
He went to a doctor listed on his company's health insurance card in order to save medical bills.
"I ate the wrong food the other night, so..." he told the doctor.
"So you've got diarrhea?" the doctor interrupted.
"Yes, because..."
"Ok! Then how many days do you need for sick leave? I will sign today for you."
The netizen said he was shocked that the doctor was in such a rush and slammed him for it.
"What's wrong with you?" Said the furious patient. "I'm sick! You didn't even check my stomach and give me a medical certificate?"
He later left the clinic and returned to his usual family doctor.
Many fellow netizens said they had similar experiences. "It's common. For those with skin disease, they (doctors) just take a glance and give you some common pills,” one wrote.
"Doctors listed in insurance policies are like that. The pills they gave you are those cheap ones in bulk," a netizen teased.
Another suggested the post help one “distinguish which doctor to see if you just want sick leave".
