An 18-year-old female student was diagnosed with the virus yesterday night. She was asymptomatic but had lost her flair since March 28. She was sent to WorldAsia-Expo for saliva sample testing upon arrival last night and did not return home, she was sent to a hospital after her samples showed positive results.
Head of the Centre for Health Protection's communicable disease branch Chuang Shuk-kwan said in the daily press briefing today that data showed the student was related to two earlier-infected cases.
Another male, 61, returned to Hong Kong from the UK with five other family members on March 7. His grandson and maid who traveled with him had been diagnosed with the virus before, and he was subsequently sent to the quarantine facility at the Junior Police Call Center at Pat Heung. He did not develop any symptoms when being confirmed with the virus today, before his mandatory quarantine was completed.
The man's wife who stayed with him in the same unit at the quarantine facility was also sent to the hospital due to other health problems. It was reported that they did not have any close contacts.
Chuang said 8 more cases were diagnosed with the virus despite showing negative results in prior tests.
Meanwhile, an HKDSE (Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education) candidate who vomited at an exam hall this morning had been sent to an inspection facility for the virus test, health authorities were still waiting for the results.
