HK exports, imports in July beat growth expectations

Hong Kong’s overall exports and imports both recorded better-than-expected year-on-year growth in July, according to the Census and Statistics Department.

Total exports in July rose 14.3 percent from a year earlier to HK$446.3 billion, following an 11.9 percent increase in June and exceeding market expectations of 11 percent.

Imports rose 16.5 percent year-on-year to HK$480.4 billion, up from 11.1 percent in June and above the expected 12.3 percent.

The city recorded a visible trade deficit of HK$34.1 billion in July, equivalent to 7.1 percent of merchandise imports.

Exports to Asia rose 19.3 percent compared with July 2024. Most major destinations within the region posted gains, with exports to Taiwan increasing 91.9 percent, Malaysia by 80.7 percent, Singapore by 42.5 percent, Vietnam by 42.1 percent, the Philippines by 16.5 percent, and mainland China by 16.1 percent.
