Vietnam is the inspiration behind Diptyque's iconic Do Son so fittingly, for its limited-edition version, the perfumer has tapped on artisans from the country to create special items.
The country holds a special place in one of Di[tyque founders' heart. Yves Coueslant's childhood memories of this country gave rise to one of his most emblematic creations. He used fresh tuberoses as the main note as they were his mom's favorite flowers and marine accords to represent the sea breeze in the Vietnamese coastal town after which the perfume is named.
Diptyque 2024 limited-edition Do Son collection is an introduction to Vietnamese craftsmanship.
It worked with Hanoi-based Vietnamese craft company Hanoia, known for its conservation of craft techniques and its celebration of Vietnamese materials, to introduce two limited-edition objects.
The first is a set (HK$2,395) with a rattan cover for its lacquered wood base and lid with a Do Son illustration engraved in the wood. A collectible in its own right, the case contains a 75ml Do Son eau de parfum, the oval distinguished by an embossed image in a cinnabar red varnish characteristic of Vietnamese lacquer.
The second is the woven rattan lid conceived specially for the Tubereuse (tuberose) candle (HK$1,035).
To complete the picture, the entire Do Son range has been decked out in the distinctive red of the exclusive collection.
